Third. For the first time since the close of World War 2, German fans proudly waved their tricolour flags and chanted nationalistic tunes.

Lukas Podolski was voted best young player and Miroslav Klose top scorer in Soccer World Cup 2006.

Beat Ecuador 3-0 in their final first round match. Germany came from behind to tie 1-1 against Argentina in the semi-finals and then beat them in a penalty shoot-out. Germany lost to Italy in the semi-final and then beat Portugal 3-0 in the third-place playoff.
